Hillsborough County Bar Association

Diversity Committee

MISSION STATEMENT

The Diversity Committee of the Hillsborough County Bar Association seeks to promote, foster and maintain a welcoming and open culture of mutual respect in which all participants enjoy fair and equitable opportunities and provide the same to all others.

The purpose of the committee is to spread the word as to the importance and benefits of diversity in all aspects of society, especially the law.  This committee wants to facilitate the involvement of the numerous minority and voluntary bars within the legal and judicial communities of Hillsborough County and the State of Florida and within its own local community, this includes lawyers, law school students, judges, and other legal supporters from traditionally underrepresented women, racial and ethnic groups, persons with disabilities, all persons regardless of sexual orientation, and transgender people.

The Diversity Committee wants to bring to the attention of all HCBA members the benefits and importance of diversity in the profession whole by conducting joint programs and assisting the local minority bar associations.

COMMITTEE’S VALUES

Mission

Within the legal and judicial communities of Hillsborough County along with our own local communities, the Diversity Committee seeks to promote, foster and maintain a welcoming and open culture of mutual respect in which all participants enjoy fair and equitable opportunities and provide the same to all others.

Vision Statement

Respect for the rule of law demands compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and policies pertaining to civil rights, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination.  In order to achieve this compliance in a culture which values diversity, the Diversity Committee of the Hillsborough County Bar Association recognizes the moral duty of all persons to foster and maintain a culture of mutual respect, to examine the fairness and equity of their respective practices, and voluntarily to refine those practices, if necessary, to ensure fair and equitable opportunities for all.
