Title: An In-depth Ethical Review and Discussion of the Police Department's Response to Resistance (Use of Force) and Citizen Review Board Guidelines and Legal Applications

1.0 CLE Credits including 1.0 Ethics 

This seminar will ethically review and discuss the  Police Department's Response to Resistance (Use of Force) and Citizen Review Board Guidelines and Legal Applications the City of Tampa's Citizen's Review Board, which reviews Law Enforcement disciplinary cases and issues of legal importance in the community.  Discussion will include how the Citizen's Review Board operates both practically and legally as well as how the Board attempts to strengthen the legal system by involving the public in an open process.

Speakers:

Captain Anthony F. Zambito, has been a member of the City of Tampa Police Department since 1996, obtaining the rank of Police Captain in 2014.  Captain Zambito obtain his Masters of Science in Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Arts from Saint Leo University.  Captain Zambito has worked as a Detective in the Major Crimes Bureau, Supervisor of the Hostage Negotiator Team, a Lieutenant  in the Personnel and Training Division, a Captain in the Special Operation Division and currently as a Captain in the Professional Standards Bureau, which includes serving as a liaison and coordinator with the Citizens Review Board.  

Senior Detective Sonja D. Wise, has been a member of the City of Tampa Police Department since 1999.  Detective Wise obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Bennett College Greensboro and her Associate of Arts from Hillsborough Community College, Tampa.  Detective Wise has worked as a Detective in the Major Crimes Bureau, specifically in the Economic Crimes, Robbery and Homicide Units and currently as a Senior Detective in the Professional Standards Bureau which includes the overseeing of administrative investigation of police shootings as well as periodically functioning as Acting Captain

Michael W. Schmid, Assistant City Attorney, Legal Advisor for Tampa Police Department. Provides legal advice to the Citizen's Review Board members regarding their role and scope in City Charter matters. Chair of the Government Lawyer Section, Executive Council of the Florida Bar. Member of the Council of Sections, Leadership Academy Committee and Rules of Judicial Administration Committee.
