How many members belong to the HCBA?

As of 2012, we are 3,700 members strong with membership consisting of lawyers, judges, and legal professionals in Hillsborough County.

What are sections?

A section is an area of law practiced such as Marital & Family Law, and Health Care Law. The HCBA has 34 sections and committees in all areas of practice as well as member and community support committees.  To view a list of sections and committees click here.

How do I become a part of a section?

To become a member of a section, simply call our office or note it on your membership renewal. There is a charge of $25 to become a member of the Marital & Family Law Section, Environmental Land Use Law Section and Trial Lawyers Section. All of the other sections members may join for no charge.

How do I become a section chair?

Section Chairs are chosen by the HCBA President each year. You may contact the president and make your request.

How do I run for a Board of Directors position?  

Nominations for the HCBA Board of Directors will be accepted until April 10 of every year. At that time, that person is added to the official ballot and will be voted on by the members in the next election taking place in May. Please contact John Kynes for more information. You may email him at  

Do you offer advertising for law related businesses or sponsorships?

We publish an award-winning glossy color magazine, called the LAWYER, nine times a year. We offer display advertising that starts at $139 per issue. Prime advertising placements fill up quick. Call our office 813-221-7777 to place your advertisement in the next issue.

Sponsorships are offered on almost all of our events. Our fiscal year begins July 1 and we begin reserving sponsorships at that time. Sponsorships start at $250. Contact our office to receive more information.

Do I have to be an attorney to become a member?

No. We offer a membership classified as our “affiliate” membership for non-attorneys. They are afforded every opportunity as an attorney member with the exception of voting rights.

Why should I join the HCBA, and how much does it cost?

Joining the HCBA can boost your legal career by offering you resources such as networking, quality low-cost continuing legal education opportunities, opportunities to give back to the community in community service projects such as work with local schools, section involvement and leadership opportunities are all to assist you in your career. Memberships start at $25 for student members, $60 for Paralegals and Office Administrators, $100 for Government Attorney members, $210 for Regular Attorney members, and Affiliate members are $280.
