The Law Day 2020 theme this year is “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100.”
In 2019-2020, the United States is commemorating the centennial of the transformative constitutional amendment that guaranteed the right of citizens to vote would not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex. American women fought for, and won, the vote through their voice and action.
The Law Week Committee is in need of volunteers for three attorney-led programs involving Hillsborough County schools.
Law week will take place from March 9 - 13.
The Classroom Speakers Program invites attorneys into middle and high school classes to discuss the Law Week theme “Your Vote, Your Voice, Our Democracy: The 19th Amendment at 100,” or other relevant topics.
The Courthouse Tours Program invites attorneys to lead tours of the George Edgecomb Courthouse. Classes of 25-30 students are bused in and paired with an attorney who will follow a proposed tour route through the courthouse before returning the children to their starting point, whereupon they will have a chance to hear from the judiciary.
The Mock Trials Program invites attorneys into local elementary schools to participate in a mock trial of the "United States v. Paul Bunyan."
